Junior Championships & Old Milverton Show
Friday, 03 September 2010 22:28

On Saturday 4th September at the Old Milverton HS Show there was lots of interest in the Disc Golf stall where people could take 5 throws from their choice of 3 distances. John Friel got 4 in from the longest distance to score 20, which was pretty amazing as it took me 7 or 8 goes before I managed to beat that score! John wins a free round for 2 people at Quarry Park. The 14 and under division was hotly contested by Caitee Midgley, Jacob Morris, and the Petrie boys, with Alex Petrie coming out on top with a score of 9 - he wins a free round for himself and a friend.

On Sunday 5th the Junior Championships was poorly attended, but we have a worthy winner in Owen "OJ" Garner who scored 106 from the red tees. He went home happy with a disc golf bag and 5 new discs.

16th Quarry Park Open Results
Friday, 03 September 2010 16:44

The 16th Quarry Park Open had a record field of 64 players, and it would have been a few more if the weather forecast had not put off a few less determined golfers. It iwas one of those days where the coat went on came off every 20 minutes. At the end of the first day it was really tiht at the top of the Open division, with Matt Cutler leading by one from Jester Wilson and Derek Robins. On Sunday morning Derek pulled away to a 3 shot lead, and then played a really sollid final 9 while the challengers faltered. Jester took second while Pete Dawson capitalised on Matt's mistakes to snatch 3rd. Tournament Director Jesse Denny was delighted to make the final and finished in 5th.

July One Day Wonder Event
Saturday, 10 July 2010 15:27

On July 18th 24 people played the UK's first one day PDGA sanctioned event. It all went very smoothly considering that tournament director Richard Hatton was only able to confirm the event a couple of weeks ago.
We had quite a few local players making their debut in tournament play, and numbers were swelled by a good contingent from Croydon DG Club. In the Open division Derek Robins found some putting form and was very happy to win with rounds of 51 and 50 in windy conditions. In the Advanced Amateur division, Richard Hatton's approach play helped him to victory over Richard Wood. In the Intermediate Amateur division Ben Foxall ha da very strong second round of 61 to take the honours.
