Quarry Park Open 2025

The 2025 British Open - Sept 5-7

Heavy rain in the run up to the 25th Open resulted in substantial flooding and we had to improvise some changes. Fortunately the short course provided some ready made if rather easier holes to substitute for black course holes 6, 8, 10 and 11 which were unplayable. Tony Ferro from Switzerland took first place and £240 prize money in the Open division, ahead of Icelands Blaer Asgeirsson. The womens title went to Norwegian resident Hanna Hugosson. The other winners in the Professional divisions were Bert Brader of Netherlands (MP40); Jean-Louis Tanghe of Belgium (MP50), and Sue Underwood of UK (FP40). In the Advanced Amateur division Arnphor Gylfi took top honours, whilst in the Intermediate Amateur division Quarry Park's own Andy Clarke finished atop the podium. This was a European Tour event and 13 countries were represented in the field of 90 players! Total prize money was £1595.
Huge thanks to Tournament Director and Sponsor Andy Malcolm, and to Richard Hatton of Disc Golf UK who sponsored the players pack discs and filmed alongside Gareth O'Neill for a video which will go out on Central Coast Disc Golf's Youtube Channel.
We got the course in great condition for the Open and will keep it that way for visitors this summer. The opening hours are currently 2pm to 9pm on weekdays and 10am to 6pm on weekends. Weekday opening will commence at 10am from 22nd July for the period of school summer holidays. Come and play!
The 25th Quarry Park Open is scheduled for 15-16th June and it's one of 9 events on the European Tour. This will attract top players from around europe and maybe even further afield! We expect that the Pro payout will exceed €2,000 and there is an extra £1,000 for a hole in one captured on film on hole 8 of the black course. Registration is via discgolfmetrix.com Spectators are welcome to view the finals on the Sunday afternoon, but due to lack of parking we are unable to welcome spectators before the finals.
Sad to say that the course was broken into on the night of 24th November, causing considerable damage to 2 buildings. The cost of the damage far outweighs the proceeds that the thieves will gain from the goods stolen.
I would ask everyone to look out for strimmers, hedge cutter and chainsaw, all made by Stihl, and all marked extensively with CV32 6RW and Quarry Park Disc Golf. In fact look out for any post codes and identifying marks on any such tools being sold off at car boot sales or internet selling sites. You may be excited to get a bargain buy, but if everyone reported the sellers of stolen goods, that would really make life difficult for these parasites. They also stole disc golf back packs, no doubt to load up with stolen chocolate bars and soft drinks.
This weekend we host The Masters at Quarry Park - a tournament for the "Masters Division" restricted to those aged 40 or over during the year, i.e. born in 1978 or earlier. I haven't closed the course to casual players, but the burgeoning growth of the sport has meant that we have 50 competitors in comparison with 32 last year. It will be very busy on the course and parking will become an issue if we have many casual players in addition to the competitors. If you can defer your visit to another weekend that will ease the issue. If you visit, but are unable to find a parking space, please accept my apologies, if we run this event again next year we will advise well in advance that the course is closed to casual play. Please do not park on the verges outside the course as it is essential to retain visibility for cars leaving the site.
In other news, we have taken delivery of lots of new stock from Innova a couple of weeks ago, Latitude 64 and Dynamic Discs yesterday, with some Discraft Comets on the way too. Hole 5 is currently closed until we reinstate stream crossings and allow grass to establish in recently seeded areas.
I'm delighted to say that we just had our 100th 5-star review on Tripadvisor. Thank you to everybody who has submitted a review, and if you see any areas which you think we need to address, then do let us know. Thank you to the staff for their efforts too.
