Maybe you have really enjoyed playing at QP, but have only visited the course when friends are around to join you.Of course, you can play on your own, but maybe you prefer to play with others, or maybe you want to play with better players and learn from them. If so, it's time to take the next step, and grab one of the following opportunities.
  1. Play the monthly handicap. It's usually the first Saturday of the month and meet at 10am for a round. If it clashes with a tournament, the date may change - e.g. it's 13th May this time. Organised by Gary O'Malley. Normal round fees apply, then it's £1 entry and £1 extra if you want to be in the ace pot. One handicap round on the 18 hole course, then a round on the short course which is just for the ace pot. Details are usually posted on the facebook group.
  2. Weekly league, on Thursdays, commencing 11th May. One round on the main course. Usual round fees, plus £3. Rounds are "rated" and if you join the PDGA you get a player rating. Apart from that there is a handicapped league table. This is organised by Richard Hatton of www.DiscGolfUK.com. Again, please refer to the facebook group
  3. Subject to getting staff to cover for me, I will be available for coaching to individuals or groups.
I should also mention that I have taken the next step, in terms of giving up my job at Warwick Uni to concentrate on disc golf. This does mean that it will be much easier for me to welcome groups on weekday afternoons before the course officially opens. I'm also taking the next step with the course, by way of a new pro shop and landscaping to the clubhouse area.
The course will be open and staffed from 10am until 6pm from Good Friday to Easter Monday. The course is open on other weekdays during the school break for Easter, but may not be staffed. From 19th April, the course will be open and nearly always staffed from 5pm to sunset every day. It's quite likely that Derek will be working on the course prior to that time, so do get in touch if you want to start earlier.
Spring is coming! Yay! Crocuses are out, Daffodils are nearly out, Days are lengthening. The monthly handicap takes place on the first Saturday of the month, so that's 4th March, and its open to anyone, just a bit of fun over 1 round, starting at 10am. Two weeks later we have a PDGA sanctioned one day event over 2 rounds on Sunday 19th March. This is organised by www.discgolfuk.com, so go to that website for details. If you are wanting to play a casual round that weekend, the course is still open to the public, but parking space may be very limited, so better to play Saturday 18th if you have the choice.
I'm ,looking for honest and reliable staff with an aptitude for customer service and grounds maintenance, and ideally some ability with a golf disc, though I'm sure we can work on that! At present I need someone who can work Sundays, but from some point in April I will also need staff to cover weekday evenings, probably starting at 5pm - it doesn't have to be every night of the week.
I would still advise walking boots especially for the long course where holes 5, 10 and 12 are very wet/muddy. On the short course holes 14 to 18 are pretty good, but hole 1 is a bit messy.
Starting now and possibly continuing for the remainder of November, we have contractors on site carrying out some works to improve the drainage on holes 1, 5, 10 and 12. There will also be works to improve the overflow car park and access to the clubhouse. This may make a few areas a bit muddy, but works will not be carried on at weekends when the course will continue to be open for play.
The 22nd Quarry Park Open takes place on 23/24 July and the course is reserved for competitors on those days, as we expect more than 80 players. Sorry about that folks, but do come and play on another weekend.
We finally have staffing in place to extend the opening times. Weekday opening is now from 10am until sunset. The staff not only look after the pro shop, they also maintain the grounds in quiet times. This does mean that in off-peak times they may not be on hand to welcome you, but they won't be too far away. They may leave some discs out for you to borrow, and catch up for payment later, and/or they may leave a note saying where they can be found (listen out for the sound of the strimmer or mower!)
