Living The Dream
If you love disc golf, then you have probably
dreamed of having your own course, with trees planted just where
you want them, no people picniccing under the baskets, no dogs chasing
your plastic, maybe some benches by the tees and so on. This is
Quarry Park.
The Course
Quarry Park is a tight technical course
set in 6 hectares of beautiful countryside dedicated just to disc
golf. The standard course length is 1688m, and it is a technical
course, which plays quite difficult when it is windy. The average
SSA from 7 tournament rounds rated by PDGA
is 51.53. In the latest tournament it was windy and the best score
from 58 players in 3 rounds was 55.
We hosted the British Open in 2004, and the course has come on A
LOT since then:- a new access and car park; 4m x 2m artificial grass
tees on all holes; yellow bands fitted to baskets; disc golf sculpture;
and much higher level of maintenence. We will also soon have new
tee signs on all holes.
Tournament
The tournament will be run according to PDGA Eurotour guidelines.
We now have final confirmation from our title sponsor, Wolseley,
which will enable us to meet or exceed a pro payout of at least
€2000. There will be 3 rounds of 18 holes for everyone, followed
by 9 hole divisional finals, running alongside Open semi-finals.
After that we have the Open Final for the top 4 Open Division players.
Spectators are very welcome to come and watch the finals on Sunday
afternoon.
Transport
We are right in the middle of England, and transport to the course
is pretty easy by car or by public transport, except the last 600m.
The nearest airport is Birmingham International which is just 25km.
Luton is 100km, Heathrow 160km, and Stansted is 175km. Check the
