The Course: Improvements

I am always looking at ways to improve Quarry Park, be it in the form of: -

Improvements to hole design.
Enhancing the aesthetics of the course.
Improving safety.
Facilitating maintenance.
Adding new facilities.
For the most part simply maintaining the 15 acre course is more than enough to keep me busy. Volunteer help is very much appreciated and I think it can be fun and rewarding for volunteers to do their bit to help. With the 2008 British open taking place in May this year I need to improve access, safety, signage, ease of maintenance and general appearance. I have a worklist of jobs for 2008 (below) and assistance is welcomed. There are a few other big jobs requiring machinery. I have noted down some of the previous projects to impove the course, and given credit to the people who have made them happen.

Course Improvements - 2008 Worklist
Work parties on March 22nd, April 12th and May 17th are planned. I provide food and drink for helpers, plus a free disc. Come prepared with boots/wellingtons and gloves.

The following list indicates Hole, Priority (Low, Medium, High), Time (approximate in mins), and the Task

3 M 60 Level ground by tees
4 L 120 Reduce density of branches of evergreen
5 L 90 Remove pallet, angle iron and wire from hedge nearest tee
5 M 90 Check and repair ditches
5 H 45 Make safe where there is a hole by the steel tubing
8 L 60 Add tee marker to left side
9 L 480 Repair and paint boat
10 M 300 Cut back dogwood
11 M 90 Level back tee and pin down mat
12 M180 Clear behind and to side of tee
12 L 120 Make bench behind tee
12 M 360 Enhance ditch on left
12 M 180 Widen fairway by pruning trees and removing some blackthorn
12 M 60 Make new OB line with rope and possibly new posts
12 M 150 Make lateral path from just below hole on left side
13 L 60 Reset bench with membrane and gravel under.
14 L 360 Make steps down at gap 10M before basket
14 L 90 Remove bramble and rubble behind basket

Demolish old tin field shelter and replace with new timber one. Special thanks to Tony for clearance work.
