March Handicap

Great weather and a great turnout of 24 players,
including many people making their first handicap appearance.
For the purpose of handing out prizes we sorted people into
5 bands according to their target score. Whover beat their
target by the most shots in their band, got a free disc. The
winners were: -
Band A - Frank Redmond with
a 57 (target 58)
Band B - Richard Hatton with a 65 (target 70)
Band C - Paul Holden with a 67 (target 72)
Band D - Andy Steeds with a 79 (target 83)
Band E - Cheryl with a 88 (whopping 11 shots ahead of her
target of 99!!)
October Handicap
2007
Paul Holden had the standout round. His target
score was 80, and he got 12 better with a 68. Adam Willetts
beat his target of 85 by 7, with a 78. Amongst those with
a handicap of 18 or less, Phil Willetts took the prize with
a 64 which was 4 better than handicap.
July 7-8 - 13th Quarry
Park Open
BDGA National Tour Event #7
The highlight of the year
at Quarry Park, with players travelling in from around the
country. We even had 3 Swedish players taking part - friends
and family of Gabriel Samuelsson who got married to Amanda
Brown on Friday. Apparently Amanda didn't want to start her
honeymoon at Quarry Park, so Gabriel missed the tournament.
The draft results in Excel
format can be downloaded here.
I've jotted down a few notes
on the rules, so that you know the main things to bear
in mind.
"Worlds Biggest"
Charity Fundraising Participation Event

***** WE RAISED £479.06
*****
*** For Myton Hamlet
Hospice ***
This is all about getting
as many people as possible to try out disc golf, and help
raise money for Myton Hospice. It's not a competition, just
come along with your friends and there will be experienced
players on hand to give you advice and guide you round the
course.
Here's the deal - you buy
a specially hot-stamped commemorative golf disc for the regular
price of £7. All the profit goes to charity, and Quarry
Park guarantees that will be at least £3.50 per disc.
The disc is your free entry ticket to Quarry Park on Sunday,
May 13th, where you can play the course with guidance from
experienced players.
There's no better way to
start playing disc golf!
You get a quality disc, a free round of golf, free coaching
and you get to feel good about helping raise money for a really
worthwhile cause!!
You can help publicise the
event by printing off posters and displaying them in local
shops, offices and clubs etc. There is a poster with green
background, and one with white
background in Word, and same but as jpg
file. You can also download some flyers as jpg
or word to hand
out to people.
One of the great
thing's about World's Biggest is just the fun of getting people
together to play for the love of the game, not for money or
prizes. So get out there and enjoy it, and tell the world
how great our game is. Special Message to the
UK disc golfers from the WB founder, John Houck

QP Event Reports
October 21-22 - BDGA Nationals (Matchplay)
+ Handicap
The 2006 Matchplay Champion
is Jester Wilson, who beat defending champion Derek Robins
in a tense finish on the 18th hole. Jester got off to a flying
start with birdies on the first 3 holes, to go 3 up. Derek
clawed his way back into the match, to draw level after 11.
Jester went 1 up on 15, and held that lead going onto the
last hole. Derek had a good birdie opportunity to take the
match to a play-off, but hit the chains and dropped out. Jester
had a nervy putt for par, which hit high and dropped onto
the rim before tipping into the basket.
3rd was Fernando Brown
4th was Simon Luard
5th was Bruce Webber
6th was Chris Rivera
Handicap winner on Saturday
was Giles Richardson from Oxford
Handicap winner on Sunday
was Luke Hillson from Leamington Spa
October 8th - Beginners Afternoon
Twenty people turned up for a great afternoon of disc golf.
We started with 12 holes, followed by a team putting contest,
and then had a lot of fun trying to get a disc round a 12
hole course in as short a time as possible, using as many
people as possible. Wherever the disc landed we had someone
nearby ready to take the next throw. It took about 7 minutes
to play 12 holes (I'll update with the exact time). By popular
demand we then had a go at the top 9 holes and managed a time
of 4mins 55 seconds.

QP Event Reports
BDGA Team Championships:
19-20th November 2005.
It was a frosty and foggy day at Quarry Park, and stayed that
way the whole day.
In fact at the end of the afternoon many baskets disappeared
from view altogether!
The winning team was Sick Condo which was made up of Scott
Reek, Rick Hoffa, Conor Davies and Fernando
Brown. The highlighted letters made up the team name.
They maintained a 100% winning record.
In second place was Quarry Park, and third was Oxslake.
11th Quarry Park Open: June 25-26th
2005 (BDGA National Tour).
Flooding on the Saturday meant that the format had to be altered
-
Round 1 was back to back rounds of 9 holes (1 to 4 then 14
to 18)
Round 2 was 16 holes, omitting 8 and 11
Round 3 was a regular 18
Round 4 was 12 holes including 4 jungle holes
The final was 6 holes, all but one jungle.
Top 5 Open and top 5 Ams played the final
6
Open Division Final Placings were:
Patrick Blake 220

Fernando Brown 213
Peter Monk 219

Junior Junior
Ben Bruce 222
Women
Sue Underwood 228
Spirit votes were collected and the peoples
choice was Sue and Ivan. They did a fantastic job.
CTP winners were Bruce Webber and Jonnie Burden
Longest putt was by John Bruce - a very worthy winner with
about an 80 footer on 18.
First in the Avon was the appropriately named Chris Rivera.
Highest non-BDGA member might be Andy Solomons (surely he
would have won that one before?) or Bill Ferguson.
The course was left in very good condition
- thanks to all players for taking good care.
Congratulations to Patrick Blake, I have no
good excuses to offer for my defeat. He beat me fair and square
with some great play. His 6 under on the Saturday afternoon
16 was superb. I couldn't have lost to nicer guy. Anyone who
has the opportunity to go to Wisconsin should seek out the
awesome Highbridge Hills mega disc golf complex where Pat
is a pro. They will shortly have 7 courses in the complex!
The Ullapool contingent won all the divisions
in which they competed: Amateur, Am Master, Junior, and Junior
Junior. Hamish and John made it into the top 10 overall. This
bodes well for the juniors in Finland.
Ben Bruce continues to amaze. There were half
a dozen slightly shorter tees for the JJ's but even so it
was quite an achievement to finish in the top half of the
whole field. After Conor's comments about the long trip to
Ullapool, it may have added a little extra smile to Scottish
faces when Ben finished one shot ahead of Conor!
Thanks to everyone who made the tournament.
It was gratifying to hear from many that you enjoyed the course
and the event.
