It's simple and fun!!
Disc golf is much the same concept as traditional golf. The object is to get the disc into the basket in as few shots as possible.

Transworld Sport made an excellent feature on disc golf and Quarry Park in July 2006, so if you have the technology you should take a look at the video on youtube

If you can't view the video then read on! Just like golf, we tend to have 18 hole courses and we share some of the same vocabulary e.g. pars, birdies, putters, drivers.
We have special discs which fly a lot further than the typical Frisbee used for recreational throw and catch. The world record throw is 250m, but 100m is a good throw for a good player.
In disc golf you chose your "driver" according to the desired flight trajectory and wind conditions. It's quite amazing what can be done. It's possible to start a disc on a slight left curve, which then turns into a right curve and back to a left curve.
Disc golf is easy to play recreationally and the whole family can play together, including grandparents! Beware though, once you get hooked you'll want to master all the different discs and shots!
Frisbee Disc Golf started in the 1970's and today there are over 2000 courses worldwide. Many are in North America, but Scandinavia is well represented. and here in Britain we have a dozen courses with baskets.
For more information on the sport in Britain see the British Disc Golf Association (UK governing body)

In the UK, Disc Golf is played as far north as Ullapool, in the Highlands of Scotland
