What A Finnish!
Yes, the Finnish players were in fine form. The 2008 British
Open Champion is Ville Piippo; the Masters Division champion is
Kari Vesala; and the Womens Champion is Anne Matilainen, all from
Finland.
*** We were on Midlands
Today on Friday night!! ***
Going into the Final, Piippo had a comfortable lead over Sweden's
Robert Buzasy. There was quite a battle for 3rd place, though, and
England's Derek Robins managed to catch Pascal Thioux to share 3rd
place.
1st Ville Piippo (Finland)
2nd Robert Buzasy (Sweden)
3rd = Pascal Thioux (Belgium) and Derek Robins (England)
5th Jester Wilson (Scotland)
The Masters division was hotly
contested, with Kari Vesala beating Sweden's Per Gylle on the first
play-off hole. John Massey (England) was third.
Amateur Division was won by Sander
Bahnerth (Netherlands), over QP regular Jesse Denny.
Junior Champion is Maxime Tanghe
from Belgium. He is only 12, but could be challenging in the Open
division in a few years from now! His 2nd round 55 beat the score
of all but 8 of the Open division players! Scotland's Ben Bruce
was not far behind.
The tournament ran smoothly according
to schedule, and all the players seemed most appreciative of the
course and the organisation. Big thank you to all the staff, all
the players, all the sponsors (especially Wolseley), and all the
spectators who swelled the galleries for the finals.
The results are posted on the PDGA
website, and we will have a copy on this site too, in due course.
